SASSA announced that payment delays in June will impact over 210,000 beneficiaries across all social grant types.

The agency identified several recipients who failed to declare additional income, as required by law. Applicants must disclose all income sources when applying and report any changes thereafter.

As a result, SASSA temporarily paused payments for flagged recipients. If you’re affected, you must visit your nearest SASSA office within 30 days of receiving the notice for a formal grant review. Failing to do so could result in your grant being suspended or cancelled.

Why the SASSA June Grant Is Delayed for Some

SASSA’s June grant delay is part of a wider effort to remove people who no longer qualify for assistance. While someone might have qualified when they applied, changes like getting a new job or having other income can now disqualify them.

This verification process ensures that grants are allocated to eligible recipients and contributes to the effectiveness of South Africa’s social support system

What You Need to Do If You’re Affected

If you think the delay in the SASSA June grant may affect you, follow these steps:

  • Go to your nearest SASSA office for a grant review.
  • Bring updated documents like proof of income and your ID.
  • Report any additional bank accounts that you haven’t mentioned before.
  • Replace old green barcoded ID books with a smart ID card, as the old ones are more likely to be used for fraud.

SASSA and Fraud Prevention

SASSA has issued a strict no-fraud policy. They have warned that any beneficiaries caught working with staff to cheat the grant system will face legal consequences and disciplinary action.
