Minister of Electricity survived a car accident on Sunday

Electricity Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is safe after he was involved in a car accident.

Electricity Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is safe after he was involved in a car accident.

The accident happened on Sunday, 14 April, while he travelled from the North West to Gauteng.

KGOSIENTSHO RAMOKGOPA INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT

According to the Presidency, the accident involved the car Ramokgopa was being driven in with two protectors and another vehicle.

The Presidency also explained that all individuals involved in the accident received prompt medical attention.

After a thorough examination, Ramokgopa was discharged without hospital admission.

“The Minister is doing well and has expressed his heartfelt wishes for a speedy and optimal recovery to those injured in the accident.

“He also sends best wishes to all individuals affected by the incident.”

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE ELECTRICITY MINISTER

Here are five things you need to know about Ramokgopa:

  • Ramokgopa was the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane from 2010 to 2016. He was also a member of the executive council of the Gauteng government in 2019.
  • He has served as MEC for under five months in economic development, agriculture, and the environment. He resigned amid the ANC’s reported pressure to replace a male MEC with a woman. 
  • Ramokgopa holds several academic qualifications, including a BSc in civil engineering from the University of Durban Westville (now a campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal), a Master of public administration (University of Pretoria), and a Master of business leadership (Unisa). He also has a certificate in executive development from Stellenbosch University and a PhD in public affairs from the University of Pretoria.
  • Ramokgopa served as the South African Student Congress leader, the ANC Youth League at the University of Durban Westville, the ANC branch in Atteridgeville, and the ANC Ward 51 councillor from 2000 to 2005. 
  • He served as CEO of the Metropolitan Trading Company, an entity of the City of Johannesburg, CEO of the Johannesburg Market, and deputy chairperson of the Board of Trade and Investment in Limpopo.
