Miss SA ends Supranational partnership: ‘Unrelated to Mia’

Miss SA has ended its partnership with Miss Supranational, stressing that the move is unrelated to current titleholder Mia Le Roux.

Miss South Africa has ended its partnership with Miss Supranational and confirmed it will no longer send a contestant to represent the country at the pageant.

The decision follows a similar move two years ago when the Miss SA organisation parted ways with Miss World, now under the leadership of licence holder Carol Bouwer.

Meanwhile, this year’s Miss Supranational pageant is scheduled for 27 June in Poland.

MISS SA WON’T RENEW MISS SUPRANATIONAL LICENCE

In a social media statement, Miss SA confirmed rumours that it would not only not send a representative – Mia Le Roux – to Miss Supranational, but would part ways with the international pageant altogether.

It shared: “The Miss South Africa Organisation has decided not to participate in the Miss Supranational 2025 competition and will not be renewing its licence for the international pageant.

The statement addressed “the fake news circulating”, adding that the decision was “not attributed to Miss South Africa 2024, Mia Le Roux, nor the runner-up, Nompumelelo Maduna”.

The announcement comes shortly after Mia revealed that she would not be representing the country in Poland.

Miss SA first participated in the Miss Supranational pageant in 2021, when representative Thato Mosehle was crowned the second up.

A year later, Lalela Mswane – the South African titleholder – competed in the international pageant, which she won.

In 2023, Miss SA runner-up Ayanda Thabethe placed in the Top 5. Last year, Bryoni Govender was named Miss Supranational Africa 2024.

‘CONTINUING THE LEGACY’

Meanwhile, Miss SA CEO Stephanie Weil has congratulated the new South African Miss Supranational, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala.

Bokang – who was crowned Miss SA  in 2010 – is married to former Bafana Bafana player Simphiwe Tshabalala.
