Minister of International Relations Naledi Pandor hopes that Israel’s allies in the West will put pressure to implement the provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague on Friday.

In a landmark judgment, the ICJ ruled that Israel must take measures to prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip.

ISRAEL ORDERED TO TAKE ‘IMMEDIATE AND EFFECTIVE’ MEASURES

“Israel has been ordered to take immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip,” said the President of the ICJ, Judge Joan Donoghue.

The judge said: “Israel must take all measures to prevent commission of all acts of Article 2 of the (Genocide) Convention.”

NALEDI PANDOR: COURT SAYS THERE’S CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE

Minister Naledi Pandor said the ICJ has ordered Israel to table monthly reports on the order implementation, showing they will use this to monitor the situation.

“The fact that the monthly report has been ordered is very significant. It’s clear that the court does say there is circumstantial evidence genocidal acts are committed,” she said.

ISRAEL ALLIES MUST PUT PRESSURE TO IMPLEMENT DECISION, SAYS PANDOR

The minister said she hopes Israel’s allies in the West will put pressure on it to implement the decision of the court to stop its military operations in the Gaza Strip and allow humanitarian aid.

“What all of us should do is to call on Israel to act. The real issue is about the people of Palestine, who are killed every day. How do you transport humanitarian aid without a ceasefire? If you read the order, the ceasefire must be implemented. How do you implement these things without a ceasefire?“ Pandor said.
