Nine armed robbery suspects are on the loose after bombing an ATM at a filling station in Odendaalsrus on Thursday, 29 June.

ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS HAD NO MERCY

It is reported that the armed robbery suspects overpowered the employees and demanded money before bombing the ATM.

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said the suspects fled in different directions when they saw the private security company vehicle and SAPS members of Odendaalsrus.

“Shots were fired, damaging the security company vehicle.”

CRIMINALS FLEE WITH SOME CASH AFTER BOMBING THE ATM

He added that one of the suspects was seen fleeing with a bag in his hands.
“ Attempts to catch the suspects were unsuccessful and it was discovered that the ATM was bombed at a filling station in Block 5 Kutloanong Odendaalsrus,” he said.

The report further read: “On 29 June 2023 at about 01:45 Odendaalsrus SAPS members and private security responded to an ATM bombing. At the crime scene, a white Fidelity plastic bag with cash was found near a fuel pump and apparently dropped by the suspects when they were fleeting. Apparently, nine (9) unknown African males approached the employees and two were armed with handguns. One of the petrol attendants was struck with a firearm on his forehead. The security officer alleged that two shots were fired in his direction and the window got shattered.”

POLICE OPEN A CASE AGAINST THE DANGEROUS CRIMINALS

“The window of a vehicle parked next to the ATM was damaged. Cash dyed with ink and 9mm cartridges were seized.
A case of ATM bombing, armed robbery and attempted murder was registered for further investigation,” Captain Thakeng further detailed.
