Orlando Pirates have been busy during the current transfer window, with the club finalising both incomings and outgoings ahead of the next season.

Pirates have been balancing their squad with six new signings announced, being supplemented by seven outgoings as the season draws closer.

Pirates announced the signings of Melusi ButheleziSephelo BaloniKatlego OtladisaPatrick Maswanganyi and Lesedi Kapinga who has just joined as a free agent following his release from Mamelodi Sundowns. If that was not enough, Pirates also announced the signing of much sort after playmaker Karim Kimvuidi from Maritzburg United.

Adding to that list are players the club did not make formal announcements of, which are Cebo Mchunu, a 21-year-old midfielder they signed from Bizana Pondo in the ABC Motsepe League. That was not their only purchase from the third division, however, as Dondol Stars confirmed they have released goalkeeper Siphamandla Gumede to Pirates on Monday. Both players are believed to be on the loan list, with the Buccaneers management looking to park them at either a club in the DStv Premiership or the Motsepe Foundation Championship for next season.

Nkanyiso ZunguNdumiso MabenaKopano Thuntsane and Collins Makgaka. Martin has already signed for Chippa United, while Zungu played for Royal AM in the recent KZN Premier’s Cup, where he continues in his efforts to impress the coach. Mabena is thought to be on the radar of Polokwane City while Makgaka is thought to be close to joining Stellenbosch FC. Now Goodman Mosele has since joined that list, with Pirates confirming that the player has been loaned to the Chilli Boys.

Now it might not be just first team players who may depart Pirates ahead of the new season, with news that young academy goalkeeper Allesandro du Plessis is thought to be attracting interest from clubs in both Spain and Belgium, according to Soccer-Laduma.

“Two clubs have reached out, Malaga in Spain and KRC Gent from Belgium. Both teams was impressed with the keepers (du Plessis) aerial ability and one on one shot stoping ability and the way he commands his defence.” Said the source to the same publication.

With Pirates recently signing two goalkeepers in Buthelezi and Gumede, the goalkeeping numbers at the club have inflated to five. Although Gumede is set for a loan move, it still would not make du Plessis’s chances any better of making it into the Buccaneers first team. A move abroad could be the best solution for the player.
