
Power outage to affect 17 areas in Johannesburg
Starting Saturday, 7 June 2025, and again on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, 17 areas in Johannesburg will experience power outages.

The City of Johannesburg announced that it will cut power in 17 areas.
The outages will begin on Saturday, 7 June 2025, and Tuesday, 10 June 2025, at various times.
The power utility mentioned that the interruption is necessary to do maintenance work on its electricity network to provide a better service to its customers.
AREAS AFFECTED BY THE POWER OUTAGE
Scheduled maintenance at Fort Substation on Saturday, 7 June 2025, from 8:00 to 14:00, will affect the following areas:
- Claim Street Central
- Claim Street North
- Quartz Banket South
- Quartz Street Central
- High Point
- Prospect Road
- Doornfontein South
- Wolmarans Street East
- Nugget Banket
- Abel Road
- Soper Road
- Micro Tower 1, 2, 3 and 4
On Tuesday, 10 June 2025, from 9:00 to 17:00, these are the affected areas:
- Wanderes Street
- Hospital ‘N’ Street
- Wolmarans Street
- Smit Street
- Sutherland Avenue
FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR COPPER CABLE THEFT IN FREE STATE
The Petrus Steyn police arrested four suspects for cable theft.
They caught the suspects digging copper cables inside the newly built Nketoana Municipality graveyard.
Community members reportedly heard the digging and quickly alerted the police.
“The police found the suspects, searched them and found [recovered] pieces of copper cables in their backpacks. The three suspects were arrested at the crime scene,” read the police statement.
Detectives spotted the fourth suspect roaming in Mamafubedu township carrying a backpack with copper cables.
Upon seeing the police, the suspect immediately dropped the backpack and tried to flee, but was caught and arrested.
The four suspects appeared before the Petrus Steyn Magistrate Court, where they were charged with possession of suspected stolen property.
Three suspects were released on bail while the fourth one remains in custody awaiting trial.
Speaking to The South African, Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring confirmed that the fourth suspect is being held in custody due to previous charges.
