
Six Durban beaches closed: Here is where and why
The eThekwini Municipality has closed six Durban beaches for swimming and updated the list of those still open.

The eThekwini Municipality has once again updated the public on which Durban beaches and pools are safe and open for swimming.
As of 12 June, the municipality announced the closure of five more Durban beaches due to poor water quality, adding to the earlier closure of Anstey’s beach. The currently closed Durban beaches are:
- NORTH BEACH
- BAY OF PLENTY
- COUNTRY CLUB
- THEKWINI BEACH
- WESTBROOK
- ANSTEY’S BEACH
“This status of beaches and pools will be updated as and when their status changes. You can still enjoy other recreational activities at closed beaches. You just can’t swim.” the municipality said.
Open beaches in Durban as of 12 June
The following 17 beaches in Durban are currently open for swimming between the hours of 06:00 and 18:30:

- TOTI MAIN BEACH
- PIPELINE BEACH

- ADDINGTON
- LAGUNA BEACH
- SOUTH BEACH

- BRIGHTON
- WINKLESPRUIT
- DOONSIDE BEACH
- REUNION
It is also worth noting that the municipality has closed 25 South Coast beaches for the annual sardine run.
Open public swimming pools
Alongside the beach updates, eThekwini Municipality announced that 40 public swimming pools across Durban are now open to residents. These include:

Swimming pools are open from 6:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday, then from 9:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays.
