Strong coastal winds pose a threat to parts of KwaZulu-Natal
Authorities have issued a Level 1 warning for damaging coastal winds in KwaZulu-Natal, warning of potential risks to informal structures and maritime operations.

The South African Weather Service issued a Level 1 weather warning for damaging winds along KwaZulu-Natal’s north coast, set to impact communities in Tugela, Richards Bay, and St Lucia.
SABC Meteorologist Mpho Rasimphi confirmed the alert and warned that coastal areas could experience disruptions.
“Level 1 warning of some damaging winds as you move towards the coast of KwaZulu-Natal. We have a minimum to medium likelihood of this event happening, but it could cause some minor impact,” Rasimphi said.
The winds are expected to affect activities at sea, informal housing structures, and community operations in coastal towns.

The warning, which applies throughout Wednesday, 9 July, suggests difficulties in navigation at sea and potential damage to temporary structures. Fishermen and maritime transport operators have been urged to exercise caution.
Rasimphi added, “We expect some disruption to different activities over those areas, especially around Tuesday and the surrounding areas.”
