Tshwane City schedules nine-hour power outage for maintenance
The City of Tshwane has confirmed a planned nine-hour power outage for essential maintenance at the Plessy Substation.

Technicians in Tshwane will carry out essential maintenance at the Plessy Substation on Thursday, 2 May, prompting a planned nine-hour power outage in the Rosslyn Industrial Area.
The outage will last from 8:00 to 17:00, as the city works to boost the reliability and efficiency of its electricity network.
During the shutdown, teams will service and test medium-voltage switchgear and oil circuit breakers, replace oil in 11 kV breakers, and install a new wall-mounted battery charger and tripper pack. Crews will also repaint the substation’s interior and add updated signage and energy-efficient LED lighting to improve safety and visibility.
“This essential maintenance will ensure that the said substation delivers a reliable and efficient electricity supply, minimise electricity supply interruptions and extend the lifespan of electricity components,” the city stated.
Water interruption next week in Tshwane
In a separate development, Tshwane residents in the Eersterust Reservoir supply area should prepare for 48-hour water interruptions from Monday, 6 May to Tuesday, 7 May. The shutdown will begin at 7:00 on Monday and continue for two days while the city upgrades reservoir infrastructure.
Affected suburbs may include Derdepoort, Despatch, Eersterust and its extensions, Hartbeespoort, Jan Niemandpark, Mamelodi Extension 13, Silvertondale, and Waltloo.
While the city has promised that “all supplying reservoirs will be filled to capacity prior to the shutdown,” it has also warned that supply interruptions may still occur in some areas.
Call for Preparedness and Patience
The City of Tshwane has apologised for the disruptions, noting that the work is necessary to maintain service quality.
“Residents are urged to store enough water for household purposes during this time,” the city said, encouraging citizens to prepare in advance and remain patient throughout the process.
