Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

SAWS warns of very hot to extremely hot conditions, with a heatwave in some areas until Wednesday. Severe thunderstorms may bring heavy rain, flooding, hail, strong winds and lightning, while extremely high fire danger is expected in parts of the country.

SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS

A. Yellow level 4 severe thunderstorms: resulting in heavy downpours, flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, large amounts of small hail, strong winds and excessive lightning are expected over the Highveld of Mpumalanga and northern Gauteng.

B. Yellow level 2 severe thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours, flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, large amounts of small hail, strong winds and excessive lightning expected over southern Gauteng, eastern parts of Free State, south-western parts of Limpopo and in places over the Highveld and southern escarpment of Mpumalanga.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the extreme north western parts of Northern Cape and western parts of Western Cape.

ADVISORIES

A. Very hot to extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the western parts of the Western Cape and the western parts of the Northern Cape on Tuesday (25/11/2025).

B. A Heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over Witzenberg municipality until Wednesday (26/11/2025).

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index is Low

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the Lowveld and northern escarpment areas. It will be cold along the escarpment.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, morning fog along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-west, where it will be partly cloudy at first.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts. It will be cloudy in the extreme east.

Free State

In Free State, partly cloudy, windy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the eastern and central parts. It will be cloudy in the east.

Northern Cape

The day will start with morning fog along the coast, otherwise fine, windy and hot to very hot. It will be partly cloudy in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly.

Western Cape

Fine and hot to very hot but extremely hot in places in the West Coast district and warm along the south-west and south coast. The wind along the coast will be light and variable along the south coast in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly but strong along the south-west coast.

The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Fine and warm, but cool in places along the coast. The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming moderate north-easterly.

The Eastern half: The day will start with morning fog in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm in places over the interior. The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate north-easterly.

KwaZulu-Natal

Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the north-west. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south easterly, becoming easterly to north-easterly from the south by late morning, spreading to Richards Bay by evening.
