Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued orange Level 6 and Level 9 warnings for disruptive rainfall, as well as yellow Level 4 and Level 2 warnings for severe storms with heavy rain and hail on Monday.

SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS

A. An Orange Level 9 Warning for Disruptive rainfall resulting in widespread flooding of roads and settlements, widespread mudslides, rockfalls and soil erosion, danger to life due to fast flowing stream, widespread damage to property, building and loss of livelihood and livestock as well as possible widespread displacement of affected communities are expected on Monday into Tuesday over the eastern areas of Mopani District Municipality of Limpopo and Bushbuckridge Local Municipality of Mpumalanga as well as Collins Chabane Local Municipality.

B. Orange Level 6 Warning for Disruptive rainfall resulting in flooding of roads and settlements (formal and informal), mudslides rockfalls and soil erosion, danger to life due to fast flowing stream, damage to property, infrastructure, loss of Livelihood and livestock are expected over the escarpment of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

C. Yellow Level 2 Warning for Disruptive rainfall resulting in localised flooding of susceptible formal/informal settlements or roads, low-lying areas and bridges, localised mudslides, rockfalls and soil erosion are expected over the eastern parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

D. Yellow Level 2 for Severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail resulting in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements are expected over the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu Natal.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and eastern parts of Northern Cape, the Central Karoo of the Western Cape, Sarah Baartman District, Nelson Mandela Bay and in places over the western parts of the Chris Hani District as well as the Walter Sisulu Municipality of the Eastern Cape.

ADVISORIES

A. A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected until Tuesday over the Eastern Cape Province, exception of the Joe Gqabi and the southern parts of Nelson Mandela Bay.

B. Very hot to extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the Central Karoo of the Western Cape ON Monday.

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm.

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect cloudy and cool to warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the west.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, cloudy and cool to warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the west.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect partly cloudy and hot with isolated afternoon thundershowers, except in the east.

Free State

In Free State, partly cloudy and hot with isolated afternoon thundershowers, except in the extreme north-east.

Northern Cape

The day will start cloudy along the coast with morning fog patches, where it will be warm, otherwise fine and hot to very hot, but partly cloudy in the east with isolated afternoon thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be light and variable in the morning, becoming moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Western Cape

Cloudy and warm along the coastal areas with fog along the west coast and drizzle along the south coast in the morning, otherwise fine and hot to very hot, but extremely hot over the north-eastern interior. The wind along the coast will be light and variable north of Cape Columbine in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: Fog patches along the coast at first, otherwise fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon, but cloudy over the interior where isolated afternoon thundershowers can be expected. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly.

The Eastern half: The day will start with fog patches along the coast and adjacent interior at first, otherwise fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated thundershowers over the eastern interior. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north-easterly, becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly in the south in the late afternoon, spreading to Port St Johns by late evening.

KwaZulu-Natal

Morning fog patches in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy to cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate northerly to north-easterly, reaching fresh to strong in places in the afternoon.
