Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms that may cause localised damage and short-term disruption to essential services.

SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS

A Yellow Level 1 warning is issued for severe thunderstorms over parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga and north-western KwaZulu-Natal, with risks of localised wind damage, infrastructure impacts, service disruptions and localised flooding.

FIRE DANGER WARNINGS

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the north western parts of Western Cape and the extreme western parts of the Northern Cape.

ADVISORIES

Very hot to extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the Kamiesberg Municipality of the Northern Cape and the West Coast District of the Western Cape on Thursday and Friday.

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces

Gauteng

Gauteng can expect morning fog in some areas, otherwise partly cloudy and warm, with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers.

The expected UVB Sunburn Index is High

Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect cloudy Conditions at first, with morning fog in places on the Highveld. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated over the Lowveld.

Limpopo

In Limpopo, partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-east, where it will be cloudy at first.

North West

North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect morning fog patches in the east at first, otherwise fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts.

Free State

In Free State, morning fog patches in the extreme east, otherwise fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the east.

Northern Cape

The day will start with morning fog in the extreme western interior, where it will be extremely hot, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-easterly.

Western Cape

Early morning fog in places over the southern parts, otherwise fine and warm to hot, but very hot in the western parts. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly, but light to moderate south-westerly along the south coast.

The expected UVB sunburn index is Extreme.

Eastern Cape

The Western half: The day will be fine and warm, but partly cloudy and cool along the coast. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly early morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-westerly.

The Eastern half: The day will start with morning fog in places south of the escarpment, otherwise fine and cool to warm, but partly cloudy to cloudy in the east with light rain in the extreme east. Isolated thunderstorms are expected in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly, becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly mid-morning.

KwaZulu-Natal

Cloudy at first with morning fog in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the north-west. The wind along the coast will be light and variable until late morning, otherwise moderate easterly to south-easterly but north easterly in the extreme north.
