Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.
SAWS has issued Level 5, 4 and 2 alerts as fierce thunderstorms threaten excessive lightning, bursts of small hail, damaging winds, flooding on vulnerable roads and low-lying areas, and possible infrastructure damage across affected regions.

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS
A. Orange Level 5 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms leading to flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas, bridges and roads, as well as damage to settlements or structures over populated area (urban or rural villages) are expected over the north-western parts of Free State as well as North West except in the extreme east.
B. Yellow Level 4 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms resulting in localised flooding of susceptible roads, settlements and low-lying bridges/areas are expected over the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal as well as along the escarpment of Mpumalanga.
C. Yellow level 2 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms resulting in localised downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail resulting in localised flooding of susceptible roads are expected in the extreme eastern parts of North West, Gauteng, most parts of Free State except in the south and north-western parts, Highveld of Mpumalanga, southern Limpopo, and southern KwaZulu-Natal.
D. Yellow level 2 Warning: Damaging Waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea and localised disruption to beachfront activities, are expected between Saldanha Bay and Plettenberg Bay.

Weather conditions and UVB forecast in South Africa’s provinces
Gauteng
Gauteng can expect cloudy conditions, with cool to warm temperatures, and scattered showers and thundershowers.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is Low
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect partly cloudy in the morning, otherwise cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. It will be hot in places in the Lowveld.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered over the south. It will be partly cloudy in the extreme east.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers. It will be cloudy in the extreme east.
Free State
In Free State, partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm, with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers, but isolated over the south-western parts.
Northern Cape
The day will start partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south easterly, but strong in the afternoon.
Western Cape
Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain in the south west and south coast in the morning. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly, but strong along the south coast at first.
The expected UVB sunburn index is Very High
Eastern Cape
The Western half: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly.
The Eastern half: The day will start partly cloudy and cool, with isolated to scattered thundershowers expected in the north-west, where it will be warm. It will be cloudy along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-westerly.
KwaZulu-Natal
Cloudy and cool to warm with widespread showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north to north- westerly north of Richards Bay, otherwise moderate to fresh south to south-westerly.
The expected UVB Sunburn Index is Moderate
