Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.
The South African Weather Service has warned that a heatwave, with persistently high temperatures expected until Friday, will result in very uncomfortable conditions in parts of South Africa. A Yellow Level 2 warning has also been issued for severe thunderstorms forecast to batter South Africa provinces.

IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS
A. Yellow level 2 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms with heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail, leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low- lying areas and bridges, and damage to infrastructure and settlements, are expected over the extreme south-east of Northern Cape, south-western parts of Free State, south-eastern parts of Western Cape, parts of Eastern Cape, and southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
FIRE DANGER WARNINGS
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape.
ADVISORIES
1. Hot and humid weather will result in very uncomfortable conditions in places along the coast and adjacent interior of the Eastern Cape, as well as over the eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, where the conditions will persist until Friday (06/02/2026).
2. A Heat Wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, until Friday (06/02/2026).

Gauteng
Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm but hot in the north.

Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect morning fog in places over the Highveld and escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, partly cloudy and warm to hot.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect fine in the east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west.
Free State
In Free State, fine in the east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the south-west, where it will be windy.
Northern Cape
The day will start cloudy in the west with morning fog along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in places in the east. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected over the interior, but scattered in the south-east. The wind along the coast will be light north-westerly, becoming moderate southerly to south-easterly from late afternoon.
Western Cape
Cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered over the central and eastern parts. The wind along the coast will be light easterly along the south coast in the morning where it will become moderate to fresh south-westerly from the afternoon, otherwise moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Eastern Cape
The Western half: Cloudy and warm to hot with widespread showers and thundershowers, but scattered along the coast. The wind along the coast will be light and variable, becoming moderate north-easterly from late morning, but moderate to fresh south-westerly from the west from late afternoon.
The Eastern half: The day will start cloudy in the south-west, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread over the interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly.
KwaZulu-Natal
Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the south. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-easterly, becoming fresh in the afternoon.
