What’s the date of South Africa’s next public holiday?

Following a month filled with public holidays, here’s the next date South Africans should note on their calendars.

After enjoying a string of recent public holidays, including Freedom Day and Workers’ Day last week, South Africans now face a longer wait before the next official day off.

The upcoming public holiday, Youth Day, is set for Monday, 16 June, giving citizens a bit of a break after this busy stretch.

16 June: Youth Day

9 August: National Women’s Day

24 September: Heritage Day

16 December: Day of Reconciliation

25 December: Christmas Day

26 December: Day of Goodwill

**The Public Holidays Act (Act No 36 of 1994 [PDF]) determines whenever any public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday following on it shall be a public holiday.

Meanwhile, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) confirmed that the June holidays in 2025 will begin on 28 June.

The school year is divided into four terms: 15 January to 28 March (Term 1), 8 April to 27 June (Term 2), 22 July to 3 October (Term 3), and 13 October to 10 December (Term 4).
