The United States may soon impose new travel restrictions on Zimbabwe.

A leaked memo reveals that the US government is reviewing countries it claims have security flaws, such as weak ID systems, government fraud, and high numbers of visa overstays.

60 Days to Comply or Face Entry Bans

The Washington Post reportedly saw a memo from the US State Department revealing that the US has given these countries a 60-day deadline to strengthen their security protocols or face a travel ban.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who signed the document, accuses several governments of failing to meet key security standards, citing weak civil documentation systems, high visa overstay rates, and widespread official fraud.

Zimbabwe Among 25 African Nations on Draft List

The draft list includes Zimbabwe and 24 other African countries, such as Nigeria, Egypt, and Cameroon. US officials flagged some of these nations for offering citizenship-for-investment programs or for having citizens accused of anti-American or antisemitic behavior.

The memo also names countries from Central Asia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, among them Cambodia, Bhutan, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

List of countries facing a ban

The countries that could face a full or a partial ban if they do not address these concerns within the next 60 days are: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Dominica, Ethiopia, Egypt, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, South Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
