This story is a reminder that sometimes the greatest gifts don’t come wrapped in ribbons – they come with whiskers.

In shopping centres across our community, while most of us hurry between shop entrances and parking bays, one woman always stops. Because she sees what others often overlook.

For years, Candace Vorster has been quietly caring for the stray cats who call these spaces home – arranging for them to be fed daily, sterilising adults, rescuing the sick and injured, and gently nurturing any kittens she finds so they can be adopted.

Her work is compassionate and consistent. Candace lovingly names every single cat she helps – a small gesture that reflects her belief that each one deserves recognition, dignity, and a chance at a better life. It’s remarkable, and it’s changing countless feline futures.

This week, she shared a festive update featuring Dixie and Dakota, two fluffy Christmas kittens rescued from a local shopping centre. With a little patience, a warm blanket, and plenty of love, they’ve gone from uncertain beginnings to playful, affectionate companions who are now ready for their forever homes.

Their story is a reminder that sometimes the greatest gifts don’t come wrapped in ribbons – they come with whiskers.

Dumpling’s Story: A Reminder of What Compassion Can Do

Among the many cats Candace has rescued, one in particular captured hearts – a gentle soul she lovingly named Dumpling.

When Candace first found her, Dumpling was severely injured and in urgent need of medical attention. She required reconstructive surgery, ongoing treatment, and weeks of dedicated rehabilitation – the kind of rescue that demands not just time, but significant personal expense and emotional strength.

But Candace didn’t hesitate.

She stayed by Dumpling’s side, ensuring she received the care, warmth, and comfort she needed to heal. Slowly, Dumpling transformed from a fragile, hurting little cat into a bright- eyed, affectionate beauty – a living testament to what unwavering compassion can achieve.

And her story has an even happier ending:

Candace found Dumpling a loving forever home, where she now lives healthy, cherished, and safe.

This is the heart of Candace’s work. She doesn’t just care for stray cats – she changes their
destinies.

that enriches life in countless ways.
