Mission
Disaster relief, primary health care clinics, feeding schemes, water purification and waterwell provision, distribution of new blankets, new clothing and food parcels, bursaries, educational support, toy story, agricultural self help schemes, job creation, counselling services, a drug rehab, HIV/AIDS workshops, skills development and life altering workshops are some of our diverse activities that have benefited millions worldwide. In our endeavours to serve with distinction we believe that perfection is not good enough. We actively seek to build bridges between people of different cultures and religions engendering goodwill, harmonious coexistence, tolerance and mutual respect in keeping with the divine injunction.
Founders
Gift of the Givers Foundation came into being on August 6, 1992. Dr. Imtiaz Ismail Sooliman qualified as a medical doctor at University of Natal Medical School in 1984.
The Story behind it
In a 17 year period the organisation developed into one of the most respected international humanitarian agencies, delivering 360 million rand of aid to millions of recipients in 25 countries, South Africa included. He developed the Gift of the Givers Foundation into one of the finest and fastest disaster response agency in the world. In September 2007 received an Honourary Doctorate Award from the Tshwane University of Technology. Has received awards from two successive South African presidents including the President’s Order of the Star of South Africa (the highest civilian award in the country) from Pres. F.W. De Klerk in 1993; the PMB civic commendation award from President Nelson Mandela in 1997. In July 2006 received a Presidential Award from the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf for Pakistan earthquake response.
The Gift of the Givers Foundation is the largest disaster relief organisation of African origin on the African continent. We have delivered over R450 million in aid to 31 countries around the world, including South Africa. We have designed and developed the world’s first and largest containerised mobile hospital, which was deployed in Bosnia. It was comparable to the best hospitals in Europe and remains unmatched to this day.
