New Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo was on hand to snatch a dramatic late winner for the Glamour Boys in Athlone. It could be just the thing Molefi Ntseki needs to turn things around. Next up for Chiefs is a semi-final clash with Sundowns, which is a daunting proposition, but you need to beat the best to be the best.

CASTILLO STEALS THE SHOW

In a relatively indifferent campaign for Chiefs so far, Edson Castillo has been one of the bright sparks. A winner in an MTN8 quarter-final clash is the perfect way to properly announce himself on this stage, and he’ll no doubt be eager to produce more eye-catching displays. Aside from the goal, fans and pundits have been impressed by the calm, composed midfield play he’s brought to the party. Is he the long-term solution to their problems in the heart of the battle? At 29, he’s hardly a spring chicken, but there are surely at least a handful of years left in the tank at the highest level.

MTN8 ALREADY HURTLING TOWARDS THE BUSINESS END

Chiefs face Sundowns next, as mentioned above, and defending champions Orlando Pirates face Stellenbosch in the other semi-final. It’s the Cape Winelands club’s first ever appearance at this stage of the competition.
