AFCON 2025: All the teams that qualified for the Last 16
There were susprise inclusions in the Last 16 of this year’s AFCON as two teams made the cut without winning a single match.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has completed its group stages, and it is entering the knockout stages.
There is a total of 16 teams that have made it into the knockout phase, and they will now be targeting the quarterfinals.
As per the norm, the top two teams from each of the six AFCON groups have advanced.
Now, the remaining four spots have been taken by four third-best finishers across all the six groups.
And those are Mozambique, Sudan, Benin, and Tanzania who collected only two points in their three matches.
Both Tanzania and Mozambique will be appearing in the knockout stages of the AFCON finals for the first time.

WHEN IS THE START OF THE LAST 16?
The Round of 16 for this AFCON will be played over four days between 3-6 January 2026.
The tournament will then enter quarterfinal stage from Friday, 9 January to 10 January.
