AFCON 2025: How much did Bafana Bafana pocket?

Bafana Bafana have touched down at the OR Tambo International Airport following their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

They left Morocco on Tuesday night, and landed in South Africa at 04:50 AM but they are expected to greet fans some time this morning.

Bafana Bafana’s exit in the Round of 16 has undoubtedly left a bitter taste in the mouths of many of South Africans.

However, fans and journalists are already gathered at the Airport to welcome them as the country prepares to move on from that pain.

Now, the question is how much Bafana Bafana made from exiting the AFCON in the Round of 16.

AFCON 2025: BAFANA BAFANA POCKET R13.4 MILLION

Well, Bafana Bafana are $800 000 (R13.4 million) richer for reaching the Round of 16 at this year’s AFCON.

This is far lesser than what the majority expected as expectations were that they would go all the way in the tournament.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) is yet to publicly announce how much the players will be getting for their efforts.

Nonetheless, this would have already been discussed with the players before or during the tournament itself.

SA FOCUS SHIFTS TO FIFA WORLD CUP

The country will now shift its focus to the upcoming FIFA World Cup which gets underway on 11 June 2026.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has at least five months to study his opponents and idefintify possible players he could take with to Mexico, Canada and the US.

The 1996 AFCON champions will kick-start their FIFA World Cup campaign against Mexico on 11 June.
