AFCON 2025: Meet CAF Appeal Board members who stripped Senegal of the title
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been thrown into chaos after the CAF Appeal Board stripped Senegal of the title!
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board decided to strip Senegal of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and handed it to Morocco.
As reported on SA People, the decision follows an appeal lodged by Morocco after their 1-0 defeat to Senegal in the final.
It was on 18 January 2026 when a number of Senegalese players walked off the pitch in protest of a penalty that was awarded to Morocco.
They spent a good 17 minutes out of the pitch, but later returned and allowed for the penalty to be taken.
Morocco’s Brahim Diaz stepped up and took the said penalty, only to be easily saved by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Senegal would then score in extra time in what proved to be the winner, and they were crowned AFCON champions.
Now, CAF had initially dismissed Morocco’s case, but the Federation took the matter to the Appeal Board who ruled in their favour.
