The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) resumes tonight (Wednesday) with all the remaining teams playing the semifinals.

The first semifinal will see Senegal take on Egypt at Grand Stade de Tangier.

Kick-off is at 19:00 SA time.

The other semifinal clash will be between Nigeria and hosts Morocco at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Kick-off is at 22:00 SA time.

Now, while everyone wants to see which nation will be crowned champions, the race for the AFCON Golden Boot is also heating up.

Five of the eight players with three goals or more are still part of the tournament, and have two games to add to their tally of goals.

WHO ARE AFCON 2025 LEADING GOALSCORERS?

  • Brahim Diaz (Morocco) – 5 goals
  • Victor Osimhen (Nigeria) – 4 goals
  • Mohamed Salah (Egypt) – 4 goals
  • Ademola Lookman (Nigeria) – 3 goals
  • Ayoub El Kaabi (Morocco) – 3 goals

WHO ARE LIKELY TO PUSH DIAZ FOR THE GOLDEN BOOT?

As things stand, Diaz appears to be the favourite to win the AFCON 2025 Golden Boot as he currently sits on five goals.

However, he faces fierce competition from both Salah and Osimhen who are chasing personal milestones.

Salah is two goals short of equaling Hossam Hassan’s long-standing record of 69 goals for Egypt.

Scoring three more goals in this AFCON will make Salah the new all-time goalscorer for the Pharaohs.

Now, Osimhen is also chasing a similar personal milestone as he also needs three more goals to become Nigeria’s all-time goalscorer.

He is currently sitting on 35 goals, and Super Eagles’ all-time goalscorer, Rasheed Yekini netted 37 times.
