Hugo Broos has hinted that he might give up coaching should Bafana Bafana fail to get out of the group stages at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Bafana are in action on Tuesday afternoon against Mali in their first match of the tournament at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo.

While Broos is not worried about getting sacked, the Belgian coach said the Bafana post is definitely his last coaching job.

“If we don’t survive the group stages, I will … find myself in a storm of criticism,” said he said.

“And then I wonder whether the federation will resist that pressure (to fire me). But honestly? It doen’t concern me that much any more. I’m almost at the end of my career. I know that, I feel that. I let my assistant do the field training, I dread mandatory numbers such as press conferences.”

Out of the 24 teams at the AFCON, 16 teams qualify for the next round which makes things a lot easier for Broos’ men.

One win and two defeats could secure passage for Bafana to the last 16, meaning the odds are in favour of the South Africans irrespective.
