Ahead of his reunion with Kaizer Chiefs this weekend, Moroka Swallows keeper Daniel Akpeyi looks at why some Amakhosi players feel and crumble under pressure.

The former Chiefs keeper also challenges senior players to raise their hands and help the younger ones as they might struggle to face the pressure from Amakhosi fans.

Akpeyi also says players get excited to sign with Chiefs but things change when things are not going well.

The Nigeria international was part of Chiefs under Ernst Middendorp as they failed to restore the glory days a few seasons ago.

“Because there is pressure when the time comes. They have huge fans, playing in the league, and when things don’t go well.

“Will you be able to stand and face the pressure for you to come out and do well?

“So, for me, those are some of the challenges players might have but for me, some senior players that have been there, they have seen it a lot of tough times.

“So, I don’t think they are panicking but for some of the younger players that could be the challenge.”

SWALLOWS KEEPER ON FACING STRUGGLING AND UNDER PRESSURE CHIEFS

As The South African reported on Thursday, the former Chippa United keeper remains wary of facing a struggling Chiefs side at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

“Playing a team that is kind of struggling is a difficult one to play,” adds the seasoned Super Eagles keeper.

“It’s not gonna be an easy one on Sunday because they are looking for points everywhere, we are looking to sustain our position on the log.

Under Steve Komphela, the Dube Birds sit fifth on the log and have collected 18 points from 10 matches compared to Chiefs who have 14 from 12 matches.
