Last month, the SABC stated that an offer had been made to secure sub-licensing right for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The highly anticipated cricket showpiece will take place in India from 5 October to 19 November, and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) recently said that they were “awaiting a response”.

The offer comes not long after it was confirmed that SABC will be able to broadcast as many as 16 Rugby matches, including every match that the Springboks participate in.

However, it’s now been confirmed that an agreement around the Cricket World Cup has yet to be reached just 48 hours before the competition commences.

MULTICHOICE MEDIA STATEMENT ON CRICKET WORLD CUP SUB-LICENSING NEGOTIATIONS

“After prolonged negotiations, the SABC last night rejected MultiChoice’s latest proposal for a possible sub-license of broadcast rights to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on the basis of the proposed licence fee.

“This is notwithstanding MultiChoice offering the rights to the SABC on significantly reduced commercial terms, given its current circumstances. MultiChoice is disappointed at the rejection of its various proposals.” – MultiChoice
