Former SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt could soon return to top flight football if reports have anything to go by.

Hunt is currently without a club after he was recently sacked by PSL returnees Durban City.

Now, according to iDiski Times, Hunt is a strong favourite to join Stellenbosch FC who are without a coach at the moment.

Stellies lost Steve Barker to Tanzanian giants Simba SC. He was the league’s longest serving coach.

Now, with Stellies lingering closer to the relegation zone, they are reportedly looking for an experienced coach.

And Hunt fits the profile having been around the blocks for years although others linked Pitso Mosimane with the job.

GAVIN HUNT TO STELLENBOSCH FC?

“Former Durban City and SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt is among the leading candidates to succeed Steve Barker at Stellenbosch,” reads part of the report.

“Given the precarious league position, just three points off the relegation zone currently occupied by Chippa United, experience in the league is considered crucial for the successor and Hunt has emerged as the primary target.”

THE NUMBERS

Barker was in charge of 249 competitive matches for Stellies. He won 97 of those matches, drew 73 and lost 79.

He steered Stellies to their first ever major trophy triumph in 2023 when they won the Carling Knockout Cup.

The 57-year-old mentor’s contract with the club was set to expire in June 2026.
