Kaizer Chiefs could be about to raid Sundowns for one of their most promising young talents.

ICYMI: How much is Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena worth?

SUNDOWNS STAR ON KAIZER CHIEFS RADAR

Sundowns splashed the cash in January, bringing in Zukho Mdunyela, Matias Esquivel, Thembinkosi Lorch and Tashreeq Matthews. That means it might be even more difficult for youngsters to forge a path into the first team. Siyabonga Mabena, Ntando Nkosi and Jerome Karelse fall into this category. Karelse seems to be open to a move to Naturena after Arthur Zwane tried to sign him while the former boss was still working in the club’s academy structures.

“I have heard there are interested clubs but I can’t reveal anything as they have been waiting on Sundowns to release Jerome (Karelse) but they are not forthcoming. So if they know that there is interest they will delay even more. And it seems there are no plans for him and they keep on buying strikers, so the player just wants to move on and get on with his career,” said a source to Soccer-Laduma.

SUNDOWNS WILL ONLY SELL MOKOENA AT THE RIGHT PRICE

Since joining Sundowns in 2022 from SuperSport United, Teboho Mokoena has become a lynchpin for the champions in the heart of the engine room. His range of passing has made him the preeminent central midfielder in the country. According to transfermrkt.com, 27-year-old Mokoena is the second-most valuable player in the South African Premier Division with his value estimated at €2.2 million (R44.77 million). According to KickOff.com, the Brazilians might look to recoup as much as double that value if they can attract interest from the right foreign (wealthy) buyers. Seeing Mokoena leave the club would be a potentially bitter pill to swallow for Sundowns fans, but R90 million could soften the blow. Especially if the club reinvests those funds smartly.
