Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has explained what went wrong following the team’s shock 2-1 defeat to Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday evening.

The Sea Robbers suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday to give the Urban Warriors their first win of the season.

Riveiro said the team failed to react after two quick goals from Spurs in the first half.

“Today [last night] we experienced something different than in the recent games against us, the ones who are chasing a one-goal lead. We are not used to conceding [early],” Riveiro was quoted on FARPost.

Pirates went behind three minutes into the game after Lubeni Haukongo’s opener.

The Urban Warriors managed to double their lead just seconds after as Jarrod Moroole went one-on-one with Bucs keeper Melusi Buthelezi, who saved his first attempt before he buried the rebound

‘It’s true that in the last game, we conceded a couple of transitions in the game against Polokwane City. But today the feeling in the first minute was different. What we do in the cup games is exactly the same, we don’t change the way we play or our intentions,” Riveiro added.

“Today trust me, I was not going to be happy even if we had gotten a good result because it’s a problem to start the game the way we did. But we created more than enough to at least get a point in the worst-case scenario in my opinion,” said the Pirates coach.
