Kaizer Chiefs must reshuffle their backline for the visit of Sundowns this week. Cavin Johnson’s men face a suspension and injury crisis.

KAIZER CHIEFS STAR EDMILSON DOVE SUSPENDED

Mozambican defender Edmilson Dove must sit out this week’s clash against Sundowns. He’s suspended after his fourth booking of the campaign, against SuperSport. That leaves Cavin Johnson’s options in the centre of defence a little thin, with the returning Thatayaone Ditlhokwe still not match-fit and Njabulo Ngcobo out injured. Zitha Kwinika should deputise for Dove.

SUNDOWNS NEXT UP FOR JOHNSON’S MEN

Chiefs will be eager to capitalize on a Downs team potentially low on morale after their CAF Champions League exit to Esperance at the semi-final stage. The much-needed 2-1 win over Matsatsantsa, courtesy of goals from Christian Saile and Mduduzi Shabalala, snapped a streak of four consecutive matches where Cavin Johnson’s team failed to find the back of the net. Amakhosi host Sundowns on Thursday 2 May with kickoff at 19:30.

AMAKHOSI CHIEFS FANS STILL MISSING NURKOVIC?

Samir Nurkjovic, the journeyman Serbian striker, was a cult favourite at Naturena. The 31-year-old, now with TS Galaxy, is still doing the business in the PSL with eight goals to his name this season. Only Iqraam Rayners (13 goals), Sundowns star Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa (11 goals apiece) and Cape Town City’s Khanyisa Mayo (10 goals) have more. Meanwhile, evergreen 36-year-old SuperSport star Bradley Grobler also has eight goals from 22 league appearances for Matsatsantsa, proving age is just a number these days.
