In that list is an attacking midfielder in the shape of Mdantsane, who has had an indifferent start to  life at Chiefs, in his debut season at the club. But of course, it hasn’t been the first time the former Cape Town City star has donned the famous gold and black colours of Amakhosi. The player was once part of the club’s academy before pursuing first team opportunities elsewhere. He will now be hoping to cement his place in the team’s senior structures.

However, he has not been the only player produced by Chiefs, to want to make an impact in that position, as he battles with homegrown star Nkosingiphile Ngcobo. Ngcobo was thought to be finally set to come off age last season, when the coach who took him through the club’s academy structures, Arthur Zwane, took charge of the first team.

But injuries curtailed Ngcobo’s first team opportunities at Chiefs last season, but a time, even when he was fit, he was not getting enough game time. Even this season, however, he failed to set the stage alight when given his early opportunities by coach Molefi Ntseki. But according to the latest reports, that will not stop Amakhosi from backing the youngsters, with Soccer-Laduma claiming he is set for contract negotiations.

NEW CONTRACT FOR NGCOBO AT KAIZER CHIEFS?

“Well-placed Siya sources have indicated that the club are considering a new contract for the Pietermaritzburg-born star, who is keen on getting back to his best in a Chiefs jersey, with MoleH Ntseki having been installed as head coach. Talks between the two parties are set to commence in the near future. Ngcobo, still only 23, has been touted in recent seasons as the hope of the Glamour Boys, although injuries have somewhat disturbed his progress.” Wrote the publication.

It remains to be seen if the contract negotiations will inspire Ngcobo to pick up form and momentum at Chiefs.
