In a notable update provided by Irish club Munster this week, it was confirmed that Springboks lock, RG Snyman will be leaving the team next year, with his contract concluding in the middle of 2024.

As it is, the latest reports have revealed that the towering lock is set to be sidelined for between four and six months, and so he is actually unlikely to play much more for Munster.

With this in mind, it’s believed that a move to South Africa is firmly on the cards, with the Stormers, Sharks and Bulls all understood to be considering their options and whether they can afford to lure Snyman to their team camp.

It’s reported that the big forward’s ‘evaluation’ is around R12 million a year, which could be a notable factor considering that he has been extremely injury prone since he joined Munster in 2019.

“The province can also confirm that RG Snyman will depart Munster for a new playing opportunity on completion of his contract at the end of the season,” a Munster statement read. “A hugely popular figure at the province, Snyman won his second World Cup with the Springboks last month.

“He has twice returned from long-term injuries during his time at Munster and played an important role last season, making six appearances in the province’s charge to the URC title.

“He is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery on a chest/shoulder injury.”

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that his World Cup winning teammate Jean Kleyn has signed a contract extension.
