South Africans Abroad: Lorch raises his hand again, Singh scores

South Africa attacker Thembinkosi Lorch has again raised his hand for a possible return to the Bafana Bafana setup.

The 32-year-old has continuously been overlooked by Hugo Broos who previously pointed to the player’s age and past performances as his reasons.

Broos said he needed to build Bafana Bafana around younger players than Lorch instead of bringing him back.

Nonetheless, Lorch continues to prove that age is just a number even after moving from Wydad Athletic Club to Al-Ittihad in Libya.

SOUTH AFRICANS ABROAD: LORCH AND SINGH SCORE

Now, this past weekend, Lorch netted his first league goal for Al-Ittihad as they beat Al Shamooa 4-1.

This was Lorch’s second goal since joining Al-Ittihad after scoring on his debut in the Libyan Cup two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, another former Bafana Bafana star in Luther Singh was on the scoresheet as his side AEL Limassol lost 2-1 Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.

BROOS OVERLOOKS THE EX-SUNDOWNS STAR

On Monday, Broos announced his preliminary squad for Bafana Bafana’s back-to-back games against Panama.

And he again overlooked Lorch as he included 10 South African players plying their trade abroad.

Meanwhile, Singh’s teammate at AEL Limassol, Thapelo Maseko has made the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad for the two matches.

Bafana Bafana will take on Panama on 27 March in Durban before facing them again four days later in Cape Town.
