South Africans Abroad: Rulani to follow Lorch to Libya?
Rulani Mokwena is only a few months into his contract with MC Alger but there is now interest for his services from Libya.
MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena could follow Thembinkosi Lorch to Libyan giants Al-Ittihad Tripoli.
And that’s if Al-Ittihad are successful in their pursuit of the South African mentor who still has a contract with MC Alger.
As things stand, Al-Ittihad are without a coach following the sacking of Ben Yahia who guided the team to eight wins and a draw in nine matches this season.
Mokwena, on the other hand, has steered MC Alger to the summit of the Algerian Ligue Professionalle 1 log after 17 games.
And he is eager to win his second piece of silverware since leaving the South African shores to pursue his career abroad.
Al-Ittihad boss Abdelmajid Saleh revealed talks intensive talks with Mokwena in an interview with WinWin.
However, Saleh confirmed that Mokwena’s contract with MC Alger has a penalty clause to terminate which makes the possible move a bit complicated.

SOUTH AFRICANS ABROAD: RULANI TO JOIN LORCH AT AL-ITTIHAD?
“Intensive negotiations took place during the past few days with coach Rhulani Mokwena to sign him, and agreement was reached with him on all details, but up to this moment, the agreement with the South African has not taken on an official character,” said Saleh.
“Coach Mokwena has a valid contract with his Algerian club, and there is a penalty clause to terminate the contract between the two parties,” he continued.
“We have historical relations with clubs in Algeria, and we must see what happens between MC Alger and the South African coach.”

SHOULD THE 39-YEAR-OLD CONSIDER THIS DEAL?
In all honesty, Mokwena needs stability in his coaching career as he hasn’t done anything overwhelming since leaving Mamelodi Sundowns.
And with MC Alger sitting top of the log, Mokwena has a good chance of winning a second major trophy outside of South Africa.
He has already lifted the Algerian Super Cup with MC Alger after beating arch-rivals USM Alger in January.
His time with Wydad Athletic Club came to an abrupt end due to pressure from the fans and former players and he couldn’t achieve his objectives.
