MC Alger are out of the Algerian Cup following their 3-2 defeat away to CR Belouizdad (CRB) on Wednesday night.

Matches between these two teams always draw attention due to the history involving both Rulani Mokwena and Sead Ramovic.

The two coaches don’t see eye to eye from their time in the PSL when Mokwena was at Sundowns and Ramovic at TS Galaxy.

But for Mokwena, this was more about easing the pressure as MC Alger had not been getting the desired results of late.

However, it was not to be as CR Belouizdad recorded the hard-fought victory on the night.

CRB had a dream start to the encounter as they opened the scoring 17 minutes into the match through Ben Hammouda.

MC Alger would then draw level on the 30th minute through a penalty which was converted by Ghezala.

Mokwena’s charges found themselves on the back foot at the start of the second half as CRB took the lead again through Khacef‘s 47th minute strike.

With CRB certain of winning the match, MC Alger struck in the 90th minute through Bangoura to make it 2-2 and force the game into extra time.

CRB would again find the back of the net 10 minutes into extra time through Laouafi in what proved to be the winning goal.
