South Africans Abroad: Sundowns loanee set for early return from Europe
Sundowns already have a competitive squad, and it remains to be seen if they will be able to accommodate the returning attacker.
Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Kobamelo Kodisang is set for an early return from Europe after struggling with game time.
Kodisang left Sundowns to join Portuguese top-flight side AVS Futebol SAD on a season-long deal in July.
However, he hasn’t really managed to hit the ground running since his joining AVS Futebol, and the club may release him.
The reason for his move to AVS was to try and get regular game time as he wasn’t getting enough at Sundowns.
Kodisang had made 13 appearances across all competitions under Miguel Cardoso, scoring two goals and registering two assists.
Now, the speedy attacker could find himself back to where he struggled as he’s still has a contract with Sundowns.
SUNDOWNS ATTACKER SET FOR EARLY RETURN FROM EUROPE
FARPost has gathered that the former SA junior international could be on his way back to the PSL with Sundowns just six months after leaving the club on loan.
While the reasons behind the early return are unclear, a source close to the information has revealed that the chances of the 26-year-old leaving Portugal are high.
“It looks like Kobamelo Kodisang will be back at Sundowns in this January transfer window. At this stage, it’s unclear why he’s returning to his parent club,” said the source.
WILL KODISANG GET MINUTES UNDER CARDOSO?
Sundowns have too many players in Kodisang’s position, and it could be very difficult for him to feature regularly.
As things stand, the Brazilians have the likes of Tashreeq Matthews, Siyabonga Mabena, Thapelo Maseko, and Kutlwano Letlhaku among others.
Mind you, Mabena, Maseko and Letlhaku are not regulars at Sundowns, meaning Kodisang will have to work harder to win Cardoso’s heart.
On the other hand, Sundowns are trying to sign Antonio van Wyk from Austrian side SV Ried.
