Swallows release 22 players including ex-Chiefs keeper

Moroka Swallows have reportedly released a total of 22 players over a pay dispute.

This comes after the club were unable to honour fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in December.

“All the players that were charged and appeared before the Disciplinary Committee of Swallows, some were found guilty,” Swallows lawyer Leruma Thobejane told Robert Marawa on 94.7FM as per Citizen.

“Three batches of players were represented by different legal representations. Some were represented by the South African Football Players Union. Those have all been found guilty and dismissed.

“We are waiting for the verdict on players represented by two private entities,” he said.

On of the notable players released is former Kaizer Chiefs keeper Daniel Akpeyi.

Earlier this month,Swallows were fined R1 million by a Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee after failing to honour their last two fixtures of 2023.

It is believed that all players who refused to train were called to the disciplinary committee, before getting fired.

The PSL is yet to release a statement on the matter.
