Teenage star invited for training with Pirates first team

A rising star at Pirates is apparently set for more training opportunities with the senior team as the second half of the season looms.

During the recent Carling Black Label Cup, Jabulani Mokone was one of the players from Pirates who took his opportunity by grabbing attention with a top class display at right fullback for the All Star XI team.

Mokone earned selection after impressing for for the Pirates reserve league team, and big things are expected from the 18-year-old in the future.

Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was watching from the bench as he was voted to be the head coach of the All Star team, and according to The Citizen, Mokone is now set for more regular sessions with the Bucs senior team.

“The coach was amazed by the young man’s abilities,” an insider was quoted as saying. “He (Riveiro) knew that he was talented, but didn’t expect such a performance. He spoke to him after the match and told him to keep on working hard. He has also been invited to train with the Pirates senior team more often.”

PIRATES HAVE A RISING STAR

Speaking to journalists after the All Star side won the R2 million prize, Mokone spoke about how much he enjoyed the experience.

“I learnt a lot from the camp. It was a blessing. They motivated me. They told me to keep pushing. They told me that mistakes are going to happen, but I must just focus on the things I am doing right. I enjoyed myself. I must learn a lot from them. It will be a blessing for them to help me reach a stage where I want to reach.”
