Banyana Banyana have been drawn in Group B at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals.

This WAFCON tournament will again be hosted by Morocco between Tuesday, 17 March and Friday, 3 April.

In fact, the previous two editions – 2022 and 2024 – were held in Morocco whose infrastructure is considered world class.

However, the Morocco women’s national team has not been able to use that to their full advantage as they didn’t win any of their last two editions.

Banyana Banyana won the 2022 WAFCON edition while Nigeria lifted the trophy in 2024.

Now, Desiree Ellis’ charges were pitted alongside Tanzania, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast.

They avoided big guns such as Nigeria and Morocco, and on paper, Banyana Banyana have no reason to fail to get to the knockout stages.

DID YOU KNOW?

Here is a quick WAFCON Trivia…

Did you know that only three nations have won the WAFCON since the first restructured edition in 1998?

Well, that’s correct as only Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa have lifted the trophy.

Nigeria missed out on the title on just three occasions since in between, and that was in 2008 and 2012 (won by Equatorial Guinea), and lastly in 2022 (won by Banyana Banyana).
