Kaizer Chiefs legend Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane has revealed his reasons behind leaving the club in 2016.

Yeye had been with Amakhosi for years prior to making that shock decision not to renew his contract with the Soweto giants.

Now, he says he had become too comfortable at Chiefs so much so that he played even when he knew he didn’t deserve to.

In addition, Yeye said he felt the Chiefs squad, at the time, failed Steve Komphela by not even winning a single trophy.

YEYE FELT TOO COMFORTABLE AT KAIZER CHIEFS

“The reason I went to SuperSport is that, one, I knew that at Chiefs is at home,” said in an interview with Matshelane Mamabolo.

“And I was too comfortable. I was even playing games that I knew that I did not deserve to play in those games because my performances were not deserving, according to me.

“And I was not happy with my performance, especially in my final season where we played two Cup finals and lost both.

“We also struggled to be in the Top 8, I think… And when the season ended, also for me, the coach was Steve Komphela, and I felt we failed one of our own.

“It was also when there was this talk that a black coach cannot coach Kaizer Chiefs etc, and I felt that was an opportunity for us to help him win at least one trophy so that he can build up from there.

“But losing two Cup to finals and not doing well in the league fueled that narrative,” added Yeye.

WHY LETSHOLONYANE WILL REMAIN AMAKHOSI LEGEND

Letsholonyane joined Chiefs from Jomo Cosmos in 2008, and left them for Matsatsantsa in 2016.

He left Chiefs having won all the domestic trophies available, including two league titles.

Yeye featured 221 times for Chiefs, scored 25 goals and provided 23 assists during his time as an Amakhosi player.
