LISBON FLIGHTS

These flights will be operated using a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.  The aircraft has 30 seats in business class and 263 in economy class.  LAM’s economy-class baggage allowance is two pieces at 23kg each and one piece of hand luggage (maximum 7kg).

“We believe the reintroduction of this flight will cater for the needs of our market as there is a strong Portuguese community in South Africa. We are excited about the reintroduction of this flight at the start of the festive period, so we can unite families at affordable fares and at the same time encourage this destination for tourism and business.” LAM said, per Travel News.

SA’S PORTUGUESE COMMUNITY

Africa has a significant number of Portuguese people among its population. This is due to colonial histories.

South Africa has the largest Portuguese community on the continent, followed by Angola.

There are an estimated 750 000 Portuguese South Africans living in SA.

SOUTH AFRICANS IN PORTUGAL

Since Portugal has grown in popularity as a destination country for SA migrants in recent years there are quite a number of SA nationals now permanently based in Portugal.

South Africans are scattered in urban centres and rural parts of the small Western European country.

Many South Africans have made Portugal home through investment schemes such as golden visas. Others have used popular D7 visas to relocate to the European country.

Consequently, there is always a need for reasonable and convenient flights between the two countries.
