Heatwave persists for HOTTER country

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) have issued several heatwave warnings for South Africa’s provinces, including Gauteng.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) have issued several heatwave warnings for South Africas provinces, as the country continues to battle a rise in overall temperatures.

Higher temperatures have already affected parts of the country for days, and the hotter temperature might still continue for several days more to come.

Here’s what we know about the heat, and how South Africans can keep an eye on the coming heatwave.

HEATWAVE PERSISTS FOR HOTTER COUNTRY

The South African Weather Service have warned South Africans against a continuation of the heatwave affecting the country.

While South Africans have already been feeling the rise in temperature for several days, it might continue well into the weekend for some of its provinces.

The country is experiencing temperatures above thirty-degrees Celsius, which classifies as a heatwave. Some have reported temperatures higher than have been measured in decades.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a heatwave is defined as any ‘heat that can last for several days, [and] can have a significant impact on society.’

The WHO warns against prolonged exposure to heat, which can trigger symptoms of dehydration or heatstroke. Higher temperatures can trigger vomiting, nausea, sunburn and other symptoms – especially when you are exposed to it unprotected.
