WATCH: Cape Town Officer Shot at Point Blank Range Wins Officer of the Year Award

Cape Town traffic officer Nizaam Alexander – has been awarded the City of Cape Town Traffic Services Departmental Officer of the Year Award after he was shot on duty…and still managed to finish writing out a fine before seeking medical attention for himself!

The Western Cape provincial government uploaded a video to YouTube honouring the dedication to duty of traffic officers like Alexander.

“Our traffic officers face many dangers when keeping our roads safe. They are the targets of criminals who will kill to steal an officer’s firearm,” said the department.

In the dashcam (dashboard camera) footage in the video Alexander can be seen firing back, before he resumes writing out the fine.

The department calls on citizens to “show your support for officers like Nizaam Alexander by slowing down, not drinking and driving, wearing your seatbelt and leaving your cellphone alone when driving.”
