The fire on Table Mountain, South Africa, has been contained, according to SANParks – Table Mountain National Park. Western Cape photographer JUSTIN SULLIVAN was on the scene.
“Fire above De Waal Drive in Cape Town has been contained thanks to the swift efforts from NCC Environmental Services and City of Cape Town Fire Department,” says Justin.
De Waal Drive was closed this morning because of the fire, causing long delays of about an hour for morning traffic.
Justin says crews “were quick on the scene to tackle the flames being fuelled by strong winds.”
“Fire is under control with crews from TMNP, CT City Fire and VWS on scene mopping up.”
The veld fire is believed to have started this morning at 06h30.
SANParks said: “Fire officials request that the public exercise extreme caution during the upcoming fire season, to only braai in designated braai areas, not make any illegal fires and to discard of cigarette butts safely.
“The general public are requested to immediately report all fires within TMNP on 0861 106 417 or the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services on 021 480 7700 and 107 (from a landline).”
