Whilst there has been much jubilation in Zimbabwe amongst white farm owners since former President Robert Mugabe was ousted, it appears not all is rosy. (Please see Update below.)

The controversial policy of land seizure seemed to have changed since Emmerson Mnangagwa became the country’s new leader… and just a couple of weeks ago a 71-year-old white farmer made international headlines when he was welcomed back onto the very farm he’d been evicted from six months previously… thanks to government intervention reversing the eviction.

However, on Thursday morning a video surfaced on social media claiming to show that land seizures are still being attempted in Zimbabawe.

Nicola Dalton wrote on Facebook: “New Zimbabwe??!! My mom and Shane getting hassled by people wanting to take away their farm. Nothing being done to help them. This happened this morning. ?”

She said the video was filmed Thursday 04 January 2018 on Shane and her mother Denise Warth’s Mpapa Farm, outside Triangle in the lowveld.

“Mr Solicitor Mutendi from Masvingo is trying to take the farm,” she wrote.

Shane’s son Tyrone Warth tagged president Mnangagwa and said: “New Zimbabwe!? This is a joke. My father Shane Warth and Denise Warth still have to put up with these people trying to take their farm which my father has put everything into.

“He will leave with nothing. Why is no one helping? I’m not seeing any change with this new government. Please anyone who sees this post – share it. Someone needs to stand up to these people!”

Nicola later sent the video to the President, saying: “Dear Mr President, a Mr Mutendi from Masvingo, believes he can take my family’s farm which is outside Triangle in the lowveld (Mpapa Farm). You can see from the video attached they are being harassed by these men. This video was taken today. Please can you assist! Surely this is not the new Zimbabwe?! The farm belongs to my mother and stepfather – Denise and Shane Warth. I hope you can help.”

Mnangagwa became president in November following a non-coup coup which ended 93-year-old Mugabe’s 37-year rule over Zimbabwe… in which the country slid into economic collapse after having once been known as Africa’s ‘bread basket’. The downfall was largely blamed on the land seizure of many commercial farms which had been owned by white farmers.

UPDATE: Nicola says: “The Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mr D. Marapira rang my mother on the afternoon of Friday 5 January 2018. My mother requested an appointment with him on Wednesday 10 January 2018 to discuss the farm invasion which he agreed to.
Thank you for all the shares, kind messages and positive wishes. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. This is not over.”
