The Democratic Alliance’s (DA’s) latest election advert, which was first screened on Sunday night, has become their fasted viewed content ever… with over 50,000 views on social media in less than 12 hours.

Some said they thought it was a Nando’s ad. “For a moment there, I thought I was watching a Nandos advert.?” said YouTube user Rico.

Solly Malatsi, DA National Spokesperson, said there had been an “extraordinary public reaction” and the DA has been “inundated with South Africans reaching out to access the ad, or to know when to watch it”.

Malatsi said in a media statement: “The advert encourages South Africans to keep the dream of 1994 alive, by voting for Change in Election 2019. It depicts the Luthuli House-sponsored cash-in-transit heist scheme, the Marikana massacre which had President Cyril Ramaphosa at the center of it, ANC deifying of the Gupta family and allowing them to loot public money, the Vrede Dairy corruption racket, the ANC/EFF corruption at VBS Bank, burnt match-sticks for street lights and failing Eskom, sky-high fuel and electricity prices, worsening poverty across our communities, and an ANC party feasting on a Bosasa cake while South Africans can only look on.”

Whilst many have loved the ad (“amazing”, “brilliant”, “clever”), one YouTube user said rather “show us progress the DA has made, not where the ANC has failed, give us evidence of what you have been opposing for the past 25 years…”

Which is what the EFF have done with their advertising:

Meanwhile the ANC has launched a series of more conventional ads.
