The Cape Doctor was in town yesterday with gale force winds blowing people off course – watch the video below!
Table Mountain’s Cableway was forced to close because of the adverse weather conditions, with winds reportedly of up to 100km/h at the top of the mountain.
Cape Town-based SAPeople contributor Andy H said: “Haven’t had wind like this in Cape Town for a very long time. It was absolutely insane😳 Actually scary too😜”
Kimberley F who works on the 17th floor of a building in Cape Town said: “I kid you not -while working yesterday we could feel the building sway due to the strong wind, first time I have experienced that… was pretty scary.”
Jacqui KL was at the MSC terminal. She said: “When we came off the ship I thought the wind was going to blow me right back into the sea 😳, and they call PE the Windy City 🙄. Our wind is a breeze compared to the wind in Cape Town.”
Alex J pointed out: “When you walk from the station to CPUT everything looks fine. No wind no nothing because of the buildings. Just when you pass the last building to the open field to the CPUT parking BOOOOM!! The wind moers you, just take your two step and begin running.”
Strong gusts of wind are expected to continue lashing the city over the weekend. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said: “The wind along the coast will be fresh southerly to south-easterly but strong over the south western parts.”
Average winds are up to 40km/h but could gust up to 70km/h, said SAWS.
