As temperatures continue to plummet in Gauteng, Eskom said it would implement load reduction in certain areas, including parts of Soweto, in order to avoid network overloading from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. today.

Two days ago Eskom released a statement saying that repeated power failures were due to extreme network overloading and illegal connections. It named Cosmo City, Diepsloot, Ivory Park, Orange Farm, Sebokeng and Soweto.

Today’s load reduction will affect areas in

  • Soweto (Chiawelo, Dlamini, Jabavu, Central Wester Jabavu, Jabulani, Klipspruit, Mofolo Central, Mofolo North, Mofolo South, Molapo, Moroka, Moroka North, Orlando Ekhaya, Orlando West, Pimville Zones 1-7, Pimville Zone 9 and Senaoane)
  • West Rand (Chamdor, Kagiso, Rietvallei, Luipaardsvlei, Sinqobile, Witpoortjie)
  • Vaal (Evaton Central, Evaton North, Evaton Small Farms, Evaton West and Lakeside).
