Hollywood movie star John Travolta has confirmed the sad news that his wife Kelly Preston has passed away. The actress died on Sunday 12 July 2020 at the age of 57, from breast cancer.
Travolta said on Instagram an hour ago: “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.
“My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
Travolta asked for understanding in his need for privacy at this moment, saying said he will be “taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
He ended the message: “All my love, JT”
Preston (born Kelly Kamalelehua Smith) had kept her two-year battle with breast cancer private; and in her final Instagram post three weeks ago (see below), she appeared healthy.
In the post, Preston included a family snap with Travolta and their two children – Ella (20) and Benjamin (9); as well as a black and white shot of Travolta with the couple’s first child – Jett – who tragically passed away at the age of 16 in 2009.
A year later, in 2010, the couple – who married in September 1991 – visited South Africa for the World Cup, when Kelly was pregnant with Benjamin. Travolta piloted the plane himself, landing at Lanseria. It was the sixth time that he and his family visited SA.
Last year, on their 28th wedding anniversary, Preston wrote: “To my dearest Johnny, the most wonderful man I know. You have given me hope when I have felt lost, loved me patiently and unconditionally… made me laugh harder than any other human being possible… shared the most beautiful highs and at times low. You’re a dream Daddio and make life so much fun!! I trust my love with you implicitly… with you I know I will always be okay no matter what happens… I love you forever and completely. Happy 28th Anniversary @johntravolta.”
A family representative paid tribute to Preston, telling People magazine: “She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched.”
Preston starred in several movies, including most famously ‘Jerry Maguire’.
